Teaching the Alphabet and the letter sounds...This first step is a GIANT step!
Download these MAGICAL large "Letter-Picture-Sound" Cards to your computer. (Use card stock ) Cut the cards out, 2 per page, color in the child friendly pictures with your child and you are all set!
Now write the alphabet chat (drill) on the back of each card. Place them in ABC order. You will recite the alphabet Super Sound Card chat in ABC order with your child. Take your time and make it fun! Practice this chat at the beginning of every lesson. This will promote 'automaticity', the automatic naming of the letters and their sounds.
Write the 'Letter-Picture-Sound' Chat on the back of each card.
Example: "T-Tiger-/t/"
You are ready to recite the 'Letter -Picture-Sound' Chat.
Example:
You say: "T" child says : "T" (letter name)
You say: "Tiger" child says: "Tiger" (word name)
You vocalize the sound of /t/ child vocalizes the sound of /t/ (letter sound)
Review: "T" "T" , "Tiger" "Tiger" , /t/ /t/
Practice this chat at the beginning of every lesson.... it is critical for learning. The 'Letter-Picture-Sound' association will become automatic.... This automatic naming of letters, objects, colors etc... is a leading indicator of literacy acquisition (See our Suggested Articles tab).
