The National Institute for Literacy convened a National Early Literacy Panel, NELP. NELP's primary goal was to identify interventions, parenting activities, and instructional practices that promote the development of children's early literacy skills. Key findings of the panel pointed to 6 major variables coorelated to early and later literacy predictors. These 6 variables include:
* alphabet knowledge: knowledge of the names and sounds associated with printed letters
* phonological awareness: the ability to detect, manipulate, or analyze the auditory aspects of spoken language, independant of meaning
* rapid automatic naming of letters
* rapid automatic naming of objects or colors
*writing or writing name: the ability to write letters in isolation on request
*phonological memory: the ability to remember spoken information for a short period of time
THESE 6 VARIABLES FORM THE KEYSTONE OF OUR KIDDIEKINDERGARTEN.COM CURRICULUM!
